Anusandhan Trust's 10th Krishna Raj Memorial Lecture On Contemporary Issues in Health and Social Sciences
In this lecture ?Dr Sarah Hodges will explore the use of disposables in the context of the long history of 20t? h?century sanitary science. ?The widespread adoption of single-use disposable medical plastics consolidated a century's worth of changes in medical hygiene. The initial uptake of medical plastics was not, surprisingly, driven primarily by concerns about hygiene but as a technology of convenience and durability. The new processional infrastructure of disposable single-use medical plastics, hygiene has produced another, albeit unintended, consequence, viz., the exponentially increasing hospitals' material outputs. Plastic has refigured the ecologies of everyday medicine. Dr Hodges is a scholar of ?socio- cultural history of modern South Asia, specifically the politics of health in colonial and postcolonial India.

Panel discussion on Supreme Court judgement on passive euthanasia
The recent Supreme Court (SC) judgement has decided in favor of passive form of euthanasia as per which an individual can draw up a “living will” (Advance Directive provided by the patient) and accordingly decide upon the intensity of the course of treatment or termination of the same. The judgment is on the grounds of Article 21 of the Indian constitution, which deals with Right to Life and Liberty. The issue of Right to Life and Liberty as a subject is of interest to varied disciplines, including medicine, palliative care, law, human rights practitioners, and indeed civil society as a whole. The proposed meeting will provide a platform for diverse opinions and help us collectively draw implications of the judgment.

The Way Ahead: The Triple Talaq Bill and after
There is a controversy around the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill 2017 which has been unanimously passed in the Lok Sabha, but stalled in the Rajya Sabha. The Govt. has not followed the democratic procedure of consultation with civil society before drafting and passing a Bill. It can be expected that the government will use any means to bring this Bill into law either before or during the next session of Parliament. There is talk of passing an ordinance. As concerned members of society, we need to discuss the Bill and put forward our areas of dissatisfaction and apprehension as well as possible alternatives. With that in mind, we have called a Public Meeting titled The Way Ahead: The Triple Talaq Bill and after Venue: Ravindra Natya Mandir, Mohini Hall, 4th floor, behind Siddhivinayak Temple, Prabhadevi, Dadar West, Mumbai Contact: 022 24328699
