On Child Survival, Development, Protection and Participation

Invitation to the members of the press for a deliberation that in Maharashtra among the key factors endangering children is a skewed child sex ratio of 883 girls per 1000 boys. At 24%, capital Mumbai has highest incidence of child marriage among the metro cities. Data from reliable surveys have revealed 1546 cases of child rape and 8115 cases of crimes against children have been registered in Mumbai. It is in this context that UNICEF and Charkha have been working on child survival, development, protection and participation - the four basic rights categories of the Convention. In fact, violence against children is all too often unseen, unheard and under reported.
